1993 Hallberg Rassy 42F, Fire damaged while moored next to a boat in Spain that had a fire. The wind blew it onto this boat which destroyed it beyond economical repair. 


Before cutting burnt fibre glass away, I had to straighten the coach roof by jacking it up. It's impossible to use a level, so many measurements were taken to ensure it was very precise. 


The cockpit cut away and jacked up to the correct position and a plywood mould made. Fortunately there was enough of the existing cockpit to the starboard side to form the mould, which I then reversed and adjusted for the port side.

After many layers of fibre glass, insulation and gel coat. 

I made flexible sanding boards bending to the shape of the boat in various sizes to blend new to old.


This photo shows the forward cabin with high level cupboards and wall timber slats removed so they could be stripped and re varnished. Most of the interior I was able to restore.


The interior is solid mahogany and mahogany marine plywood. After at least 7 coats of varnish and sanding between coats, a really nice finish is achieved.

I used a specialist to carry out the work to the hull. Although not badly burnt, the heat of the fire had shrunk the core insulation, leaving a chequered appearance along the port side.

Hull is prepared ready for the final fibre glass and fairing.
